Skynet 5C launched!

orbit1.jpgSkynet 5C was launched on the 12th of June 2008 from Kourou. It then spent several days on its Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit, and finally was boosted to the Geostationary orbit by its Apogee Boost Motor. In the Launch and Early Orbit Phase, the space craft was most likely spin stabilised at a rate of somewhere between 15 and 60 rpm around its Yaw axis. The Skynet 5C satellite most probably uses Nutation Sensors as per the Skynet 4's, in order to dampen out any nutation that would result in an end over end tumble during LEOP. The Skynet 5C satellite arrived at its approximate geostationary slot of 17.88 west around the 20th of June 2008, and further refinements to its orbit are underway. As yet, only S-Band TT&C has been detected. Spacecraft de-gassing is probably under way which will in turn lead to the acitvation of the X-Band package as well as the UHF package.

Launch of Skynet 5C !

Yep, let´s hope we will hear the first UHF-Signals soon from it.
